This Sunday, the much-anticipated European Wixoss Championship took place in Milan, where 16 skilled players competed for the coveted qualification to the Maho Shojo Cup in Japan. The event, hosted at UESM, kicked off around 11:00, and from the very start, there was a festive atmosphere as participants from various European countries came together to play and share their passion for the game.
Tournament Analysis and Lrig Breakdown
Let’s start with a detailed analysis of the Lrig used during the tournament. As shown in the graph below, there was a clear dominance of Hanayo and Nanashi in their Dissona versions, with 4 decks each. However, it’s interesting to note that despite the popularity of these two Lrig, there were significant variations in the deck builds.
In addition to these main choices, the rest of the meta turned out to be surprisingly diverse. We saw the presence of a Pripara deck and a Remember deck from the P10 set, as well as an Atom deck, which, despite being released a year ago, continues to maintain a strong position in the game, even making it to the Top 4.
Top 4 Decks
1st Place - Sofian Giannarelli
Sofian played a canonical version of Hanayo, demonstrating its strength in the current meta, with its aggressive playstyle and strong potential for success. An interesting choice was including the piece Instigate, which added versatility to the strategy, along with 3 copies of DJ Lovit, which made his deck even more consistent.
2nd Place - Mickael Krattinger
Mickael brought a Nanashi Dissona deck in its discard version with blue, one of the most powerful builds of this archetype. This list has seen great success in Japan, and it’s impressive that Mickael managed to perform well despite the presence of Zeno Cluster, a piece commonly played at the tournament that counters discard strategies.
3rd Place - Gabriel Fischer
In third place, we find another deck that heavily relies on hand control and resource management, Mikomiko Dissona. Fischer's strategy focused on hand control and stax, showing how effective these mechanics can still be against many opponents.
4th Place - Yuki Semples
Yuki secured the final spot in the top 4 with a Piruluk deck in its Atom version. Once again, this archetype proved capable of challenging opponents even a year after its release. Atom's ability to summon H2O and create difficult situations for the opponent was crucial to Yuki’s success throughout the tournament.
Tournament Conclusion
The entire event ran smoothly, with participants enjoying fierce but respectful and friendly competition. After 5 intense rounds of Swiss, Sofian Giannarelli emerged victorious with an innovative version of Hanayo Dissona, securing his qualification for the Mugen Shojo Cup 2025 in Japan!
To wrap up the event on a celebratory note, all players agreed to a special gesture. The event Judge offered a playmat, which was signed by all participants as a memento of the festive day this European Championship represented. The playmat was then raffled off among the players, and the lucky winner was Eugénie Poupet. A small but meaningful souvenir of a memorable experience.
